Digging deep and giving it all in everything they do Chicago’s Lubriphonic
specialize in a unique offering of funky rock n’ roll. The septet’s tight and
raw sound is immediately familiar, fusing the roots of soul with
explosive in-your-face delivery and sensuous R&B dance music.

The Lubriphonic sound is full of precision orchestrations made up of blazing
guitars, unison three piece horn lines, soulful songwriting, bluesy
vocals and the habit to cut the funk loose. The best description of
the band’s sound comes from Relix Magazine: “Superb, adventurous,
diverse, simply mesmerizing instrumental work. Steeped in soul, rock, pop, and
blues Lubriphonic's members play with a tenacity and precision that
sets them apart from equally proficient bands.”

Lubriphonic is the brainchild of guitarist Giles Corey and drummer Rick King
which began as a residency at Chicago’s legendary Checkerboard Lounge,
where they recruited some of the best blues, funk, and rock
musicians in the city for improvisational live sessions in which the kinetic energy that make a band were initiated.

The evolution from performing as sidemen for the city’s most legendary blues
stars such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor into an original
group came from the hunger of each musician to develop an intense
and simmering sound.

Guitarist Corey explains “Everyone in Lubriphonic comes from the Chicago blues
or gospel music pools. I met Rick King while playing in blues bands
in Chicago, and when we eventually wanted to start a band together
all of the cats we knew played the blues. There were and still
are all these cats that had a strong foundation in Chicago roots music who understood the feel and the nuances, but were dying to stretch out.
Lubriphonic turned out to be a good vehicle for that.”

It’s this expression of creativity and energy at each performance that is
paramount to Lubriphonic. “We are a live band first and foremost.  There's a
palpable energy emitted by any large gathering of people,” Giles
continues.  “When you perform for an audience and give them positive energy,
they take what you give them, amplify it and then throw it back to
you.  It's a fantastic feeling.”

Lubriphonic – made up of Giles Corey (vocals, guitar), Richard King (drums),
Pennal Johnson (bass), Garrick Patten (saxophone), Norman Palm
(trombone) and Andrew Toombs (keyboards) – tour extensively, crisscrossing the
country playing festivals, theaters and clubs spending over 220 days a
year on the road.

?Sold out shows, national tours and their evolving sound are proof enough of how
relevant Lubriphonic is going to become in the coming years. The
group’s recent studio debut, Soul Solution manages to contain the trademark
explosive live energy an accurate studio portrayal. Since first forming in
2002
Lubriphonic already boasts a nationwide fan base, playing to
crowds
opening for such acts as Buddy Guy, George Clinton & P-Funk, The
Derek Trucks Band, The New Mastersounds, Jon Popper Project, Karl Denson,
and
Buckwheat Zydeco. ??Entirely committed to continuing their mission,
Lubriphonic is happy to be playing the music they love and winning over new
fans each new night at each new city. “As a sideman one of the things you
learned is how to be professional. I learned how to give to an audience, no
matter what. That's what you’ll get at a Lubriphonic show.”

Tony Adamo’s Voice N’ Soul Music

Fred Harris, Los Angeles, California

UrbanZone Productions

Strokeland recording artist, Tony Adamo, got a new perspective of Voice N’ Soul when his long time guitarist/producer, Jerry Stucker got down with it at Capitol Studios and Mastering, at the historic Capitol Records Building, Hollywood, California. He brought in the big fat funk jazz beat of Stephen 'Doc' Kupka (Tower of Power, Strokeland Records) and Neil Larsen (Diana Krall, B.B. King, Greg Allman) for Adamo’s cover of the Tower of Power classic, "What is Hip," written by Kupka and Emilio Castillo. The arrangement by Jerry Stucker with Adamo’s "good gracious that’s a whole lot of soul vocal and spoken hip word" is so far removed from the original, that Doc "dug the hell out of it."

The "What is Hip" line up: Mike Clark (drums), Bill Summers(percussion), Sandy Griffith (background vocals), Eddie Henderson (trumpet), Richie Goods (bass), Neil Larsen (organ), and Jerry Stucker (guitar). Eddie Henderson in the horn section and Doc Kupka (bari sax) is mo’ funk and groove than anyone can handle.

"What is Hip" will be available as an MP3 download on Doc Kupka’s Strokeland Records soon. Horndrivenradio will be the first radio station in the west to play"What Is Hip." Raoul Fernandes PD for Horndrivenradio has been running"'This Time It's Real" in its rotation for several months. The retooled "What Is Hip" and This Time It's Real" will be on Adamo's new unnamed CD. Drop date 5-1-10.So get ready for some swingn' soul groove vocals that brings the hip back to funk.

GARAGE BAND LISTENERS' REVIEWS

Funky!!!
Love the Funky feel on this track all set up by the guitar and everything falls into place. From the get go, a great guitar jam and excellent vocal stylings makes this song a hit in my book!!

TheMightyThor from Cape Canaveral, Florida

FUNK TO SAVE MY SOUL

This is some jammin' funk music. Musicians are tight, the bassist is SICK SICK SICK good. The rhythm section as a unit is a formidable piece. Guitarist is tight. The sound overall is kind of reminiscent of a band called Marvelous Sauce out of Canada in the early 90s. Funny. Nice scat singing, vocalist. This is a level of musicianship and production that you don't often hear on Garageband, and even more rarely on the radio. Nicely done...The only thing that sucks about this song is that it ends.

Ghostrunner from Amherst, New York

DO IT
I can't stop bobbing my head!!!!
DAMN....The bass groovin' beat is SWEET! I really like the Trent Reznor touch to this song. The beat throughout this song really drives the listener into a frenzied state of mind! The vocals mix it up just enough to demand the audiences FULL ATTENTION. The subtle guitar nuances really add an extra layer to the song. I have to listen to this one more time.....DAMN....I think the mix/production for this song is perfect! Everything comes through nice and clear!

reKRAPgiARC from Plymouth, Michigan

UNDERSTAND

Jump to the front of the line. Have your ID ready.
These guys sound great. The high end treble electric guitars and the deep vocals along with the dark drum track makes this song a radio must(a little like Johnny Van Zant and .38 Special). Its a very cool song and would listen to it again and again. "Follow Me" is best described as a Southern Rock song along the lines of The Outlaws and Allman Brothers.

ronsandefur from Southaven, Mississippi

ILLEGAL KISS
What a great Get Down Sound.
Had me worried for a second... thought you may be hip hop with that intro... really kicks! the production kiks and that Spanish guitar comes outta nowhere and WORKS! Great production.

Description:
Biography:
Ray Davon

The funky R&B boo-yah! of Ray Davon's musical self-expression is among the great wonders of the world. Shining a heartfelt spark of creativity rarely seen in the modern music biz, Davon opens up a well of passion and talent that results in gripping and emotionally charged songs that hook the listener with a quickness!

The Zone

Music is the source of its own special realm of existence. To get lost in music is to find one's self in a distinct and special world. “Music to me is like 'the zone' of a pro athlete,” says Davon. “When I'm sad, I write; when I'm happy, I write. I'm in a place where you get in touch with your inner soul and mind.” And by exploring his inner soul and mind and bringing it to the surface in his songs, Davon is able to touch the hearts and spirits of his listeners.

Grooves and More

Davon will be the first person to admit the vital importance of grooves, especially to such hook-laden genres as funk and rhythm-and-blues. But the music must move beyond the mere groove and the lush melody. Behind all that beauty there must be a focused intelligence the music must speak to spirit and flesh alike. “I'm inspired,” says Davon, “by anything that moves my mind and my body, something that tells a story.” It's this human touch that truly distinguishes Davon's songwriting.

The Artist at Work

Davon has seen three of his songs find placement in movies for Disney and Touchstone Pictures. He was the producer, co-writer and arranger of R&B artist Erik Cole's 2002 debut album “Do You Feel.” Hitting the streets soon will be Davon's own debut CD, on which he played guitar, piano, drums and bass and sang vocals. Davon is currently working with the hottest, indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA, A&R Select.
